THE CHALLENGE
The work is hard to picture.
Melissa’s work is about relationships: how people connect, how information passes between them, and how better communication changes a workplace’s culture and decisions. The traditional look of leadership and consulting didn’t capture that. Mel needed a visual language system people would recognise, and one that helps them understand ideas, concepts and information.
THE SPARK
Connections create communication, and communication keeps a system working.
The idea came from how neurons connect and pass information through the nervous system. Linked shapes, paths and meeting points became the building blocks of the visual language, representing relationships and the flow of ideas, information and vision through an organisation where strong connections can support meaningful change.
The visual elements were designed to help explain ideas and relationships, rather than simply decorate.
THE OUTCOME
A recognisable way to communicate the work.
Feedback from clients and connections highlighted that the design system showcases Melissa Lithgow’s expertise and approach. The results increased recognition when meeting new contacts and an increase in website click-throughs, receiving comments greater recognition and awareness.
The system was designed to be practical as well as distinctive, giving Melissa and her team a flexible visual foundation they could confidently use and extend.
